E-Readers

Compare E-Readers

More than half of the World population (58 percent) read digitally using e-readers. Whether books, magazines, newspapers or websites. The 'e-readers' are devices that, in percentage, have grown in recent years. Its use was multiplied by 2.5 between 2011 and 2012, and by 5 when compared with 2010. The number of readers who use digital mode is 6.6 percent.

The report on reading habits and book purchases in World, developed by Connect and the Federation of Publishers Guilds through 6700 telephone surveys, shows that electronic reading devices are on the rise.

Success, however, is not all alike. While tablets, especially the Apple iPad-continue to rise, the electronic-ink devices except the Amazon Kindle have stabilized or even lost market share.

Although tablets have many more uses than the reading devices are considered centered content consumption including books, newspapers, magazines and blogs. Over a third of respondents reported having an 'e-reader' instead of having an iPad. The Kindle was about 15 percent.

Although the number of readers who use an electronic device to read in 2012 amounted to 6.6 percent, 7.8 percent reported owning one. The difference is explained by the multiple capabilities of tablets, which can be used to play games, send emails or watch videos and movies.

The population group most uses 'e-readers' as a reading device among the youth between 25 and 34 years. Most media are consumed in these books, web-pages followed by blogs, forums, etc, and digital media.

Regarding the specific consumption of ebooks, most users 'e-readers' get them for free. Either because the download directly or because they are a family member or friend passes. Even so, the percentage of people who consume eBooks without paying has been reduced from 73 to 64 percent in the last twelve months.

According to the report, only one third of e-reader users buy digital books over the Internet. Even among these, the percentage of products they purchase is less than half of those consuming. Readers using 'e-readers' read on average 16 books per year. Half of these books are read through electronically.

The main digital readout remains the personal computer. 55 percent of the World population uses it to consume books, newspapers and online sites. The second is the Smartphone, which almost 13 percent is also used for this purpose.

Most were spent on digital media websites (forums, blogs, etc) with 46 percent, followed by digital newspapers with 38 percent and books, which reached 11 percent.
